Congressman David Trone Releases Congressional Report Showing at Least 47,000 Marylanders in the Sixth District Stand to Benefit from Lower Health Care Costs Thanks to American Rescue Plan
WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman David Trone released a new Congressional report showing that at least 47,000 Marylanders in Maryland’s Sixth District stand to benefit from lower health care costs thanks to the American Rescue Plan (ARP) that was passed by Democrats in Congress and signed into law by President Biden. You can access the entire report here.
“When people have reliable health insurance, they live happier, healthier, and more secure lives. The American Rescue Plan brings new opportunities to those who are uninsured and brings down the cost of health care for millions of Americans,” said Congressman David Trone. “I’m glad I was able to help more Marylanders lower healthcare costs, especially during a global health crisis. No one should have to worry about a basic human right like health care.”

The ARP builds on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and reduces the cost of health insurance by expanding eligibility for financial assistance. At the beginning of this year, Trone fought hard to pass the ARP so that the country could effectively combat the health and economic crises caused by the pandemic.
Since the enactment of the ARP, premiums for consumers with existing federal Marketplace plans have decreased by 40%. Additionally, 14.9 million uninsured Americans gained access to health care coverage. The report highlights how Marylanders in the Sixth District have been impacted by the ARP and explains how more individuals could benefit from larger tax credits and lower premiums.
Report Highlights
ARP Benefits for Maryland’s Sixth District:
- 25,000 people who don’t have health insurance are eligible for subsidies.
- 21,000 individuals can now enroll in an ACA plan at no cost.
- If everyone in the district with access to a $0 premium plan signed up for coverage, the number of uninsured people in the district would be reduced by 50%.
- 26,000 people who purchase health insurance on the individual market could benefit from financial assistance, and the average household could save an annual $3,100 in health insurance premiums.
- 18,000 individuals who were already receiving ACA tax credits could benefit from larger credits.
Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans’ Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees in the 117th Congress and previously served on the Education and Labor and Foreign Affairs Committees. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the mental health and addiction crises, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
