Congressman David Trone Announces Help for Local Schools, Libraries to Boost Broadband Access
GAITHERSBURG, Md. – Today, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) announced that schools and libraries can apply for additional funding for broadband connectivity through the Emergency Connectivity Fund. The Fund, created by the Trone-backed American Rescue Plan, is providing needed accessibility for students to succeed. Applications are open now through October 13th.
“Broadband is essential in this day and age and everyone deserves access to it,” said Congressman David Trone. “During this pandemic and long before, I’ve heard from students and educators about just how important high-quality and affordable internet access is. The American Rescue Plan’s Emergency Connectivity Fund will provide vital funding to those who have been struggling with internet accessibility.”
During the height of the pandemic, Rep. Trone helped pass the American Rescue Plan to rebuild America’s struggling economy. The law included the Emergency Connectivity Fund, a program to expand internet access for schools and libraries across the country. Over the summer, Marylanders applied for $53 million from the Emergency Connectivity Fund. Now, due to high interest in the program and with additional funding still available, the FCC has opened a second application filing window for Marylanders to request additional funds.
