Trone Visits Montgomery, Washington, and Frederick Counties to Assess New Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Projects

FREDERICK, MD — This week, Congressman David Trone wrapped up his Bipartisan Infrastructure Tour of Montgomery, Washington, and Frederick Counties. Trone embarked on the tour earlier this week to visit potential sites around Maryland’s Sixth District that could benefit not only from the $550 billion in new federal funding that the law provides nationwide, but also the $650 billion in existing federal grants available to infrastructure projects.
During the tour, Trone met with Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman to discuss the redevelopment needs in Olde Towne and Lakeforest Mall. The plans included safer, more accessible sidewalks, as well as wider bike lanes for more environmentally-friendly travel within the community. He also caught up with Hagerstown Mayor Emily Keller and other city officials to talk about building a new bridge to extend Professional Court Road, as well as creating a new parking deck in downtown Hagerstown. The completed bridge would provide a faster, more direct route for emergency medical services (EMS) to reach Meritus Medical Center. He later visited the Hagerstown Regional Airport to discuss funding opportunities to improve safety and expand services provided by the airport. On Wednesday, Trone visited Frederick and hosted a roundtable with the Frederick County Farm Bureau to discuss, among other issues, the implementation of reliable, high-speed internet, which will significantly benefit rural communities in Western Maryland.
“Even before the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passed into law, we were working with our local leaders on the ground to identify issue areas and funding needs. Over the past few days, we’ve traveled across the district to start putting pen to paper,” said Congressman David Trone. “Now, we are well on our way to creating better roads, bridges, public transportation, safe drinking water, and stronger broadband access for all Marylanders. We’re bringing our state into the 21st century and lifting up folks in need. A real win-win!”

All three of the projects discussed are essential for continued growth in our city. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act or the “Bipartisan Infrastructure Law” was signed into law by President Biden in November 2021. The transformative investment is expected to deliver as much as $6 billion in federal funding to Maryland to rebuild our state’s roads, bridges, public transit, water infrastructure, climate resiliency measures, and broadband deployment.
