Trone Votes to Pass Omnibus Appropriations Funding Package, Secures Nearly $7 Million in Community Project Funding

The legislation helps lower costs for the middle class, create American jobs, and support the vulnerable

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Last night, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) voted to pass a government funding package to bolster local economies, help working families with the cost of living, and create American jobs.

“Last night, the House passed crucial funding for the country and delivered millions of much-needed dollars directly to Maryland communities. One of Congress’ most basic, yet vital, responsibilities is to fund government services and programs that represent the will of the American people, and I’m glad we finally got the job done,” said Congressman Trone. “Our country is one that helps hardworking families. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I remain committed to securing the resources that Marylanders deserve.” 

This government funding legislation includes significant investments to:

• Help Working Families With the Cost of Living: reducing costs by expanding child care and early learning programs to more working families, investing in America’s K-12 public schools, expanding access to homeownership, and bringing the promise of rural broadband to more communities;
• Create American Jobs: putting folks to work in good-paying jobs, rebuilding our infrastructure, helping small businesses grow and thrive, and supporting high-quality job training and apprenticeship programs so every American can contribute and succeed;
• Support the Vulnerable: meeting Americans’ basic needs by strengthening nutrition assistance, funding more affordable housing, and strengthening the social safety net;
• Honor Our Promise to Veterans: funding benefits, bolstering the VA’s health care system, and reducing backlogs; and
• Deliver Justice for Women and Girls: cracking down on gender-based violence with a long-overdue reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act.

In addition, the legislation includes nearly $7 million in Community Project Funding secured by Rep. Trone that will directly benefit Maryland’s Sixth District:

• $883,574 for broadband expansion in Garrett County
• $1,000,000 for a broadband career training pilot program in Montgomery County
• $850,000 for a behavioral health Crisis Stabilization Center in Frederick County
• $475,000 for behavioral health crisis treatment services in Washington County
• $325,000 for telehealth expansion for Everymind in Montgomery County
• $534,977 for a flood mitigation project on Motter Avenue in Frederick County
• $1,500,000 for the Asian American Center of Frederick in Frederick County
• $500,000 for transforming and repurposing vacant/blighted properties in Hagerstown, Washington County
• $500,000 for South Germantown Recreational Park in Montgomery County
• $187,500 for facility revitalization at Allegany College in Allegany County

The package will also provide $13.6 billion in assistance for the people of Ukraine, as they face Russia’s unprovoked, premeditated war. Further, this legislation will unlock critical infrastructure investments that have already been authorized by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, creating good-paying jobs across Maryland.

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans’ Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the mental health and addiction crises, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
