Trone, Levin Introduce Resolution to Honor Assistant Principals
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressmen David Trone (D-MD) and Andy Levin (D-MI) introduced a resolution to declare the week of April 4 through April 8, 2022, National Assistant Principals Week.
“As the son of an educator, I know firsthand that assistant principals are crucial to the success of their schools and students,” said Congressman Trone. “By designating National Assistant Principals Week, we are giving these heroes the recognition they deserve. I applaud the commitment made by Maryland’s assistant principals to our students every day. Now, more than ever, their invaluable contributions to our country’s education system do not and should not go unnoticed.”
“Assistant principals are essential and often unsung leaders in our education system, facing some of the most challenging moments in history the last two years,” said Congressman Levin. “Despite the ongoing pandemic, assistant principals have gone above and beyond to help ensure academic success for all students, a safe and welcoming work environment for education staff and operational excellence for their facilities. They are beyond deserving of recognition for all of their hard work day in and day out.”
The resolution notes that “assistant principals play a pivotal role in the instructional leadership of their schools by supervising student instruction, mentoring teachers, recognizing the achievements of staff, encouraging collaboration among staff, ensuring the implementation of best practices, monitoring student achievement and progress, facilitating and modeling data-driven decision making to inform instruction, and guiding the direction of targeted intervention and school improvement.”
The resolution has the support of The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP); the National Association of Elementary School Principals; and the American Federation of School Administrators.
