Trone Hosts Virtual Conversation with Marylanders from Ukraine on the Russian-Ukraine War
Rep. Trone discusses the Russia-Ukraine war with fellow Marylanders Helen and Vera, who were both born and raised in Kyiv, Ukraine.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Representative David Trone released a “Trone Talk” with Maryland residents Helen and Vera to highlight the need for the United States to continue supporting Ukraine in the Russia-Ukraine war. Helen and Vera were both born and raised in Kyiv and still have friends and family in Ukraine. During the conversation, the three discussed how the war has impacted Ukrainians both at home and abroad, ways to provide humanitarian support, and sanctioning Russian President Putin to stop further destruction.

“Nearly two months ago, Putin chose to not only attack Ukraine but also threaten democratic values around the world,” said Congressman Trone, Member of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus. “We must continue to provide support to the Ukrainian people and impose strong sanctions on Russia. It’s truly heartbreaking to hear the stories about Helen and Vera’s loved ones, which is why we must do everything we can to end this senseless violence and protect freedom and democracy around the world.”
Earlier in March, Congress passed its omnibus package to fund the federal government, which included $13.6 billion in humanitarian aid for Ukraine. The funding will go toward the costs of sending troops and weapons to allied forces in Eastern Europe, delivering economic aid to refugees and allies, and enforcing economic sanctions against Russia while protecting against cyber threats at home.
Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans’ Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees in the 117th Congress. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the mental health and addiction crises, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
