Trone Announces Over $8 Million to Lower Energy Costs for Hardworking Marylanders
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman David Trone announced that Maryland will receive $8,090,410 in federal funds to bring down heating and cooling costs for working families. These investments, secured through last month’s federal government funding package, will be used to slash Marylanders’ energy bills, provide crisis assistance, and help weatherize homes.
“We fought hard to provide folks with additional funding from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program to help those struggling, and today I’m proud to announce another round of funding for the Program,” said Congressman David Trone. “Despite record job growth and low unemployment rates, our economy is still recovering from the pandemic, and some families need a helping hand. Rising gas prices and inflation make it harder for Marylanders to keep the lights on. In Congress, I’m doing everything I can to help.”
The funding announced today represents the fourth round of LIHEAP assistance over the past year. In total, Congress has fought for and delivered $152,953,733 in energy assistance to Maryland households since last May. Previous rounds were delivered through:
- American Rescue Plan: $73,506,086
- 2021 Continuing Resolution: $69,851,450
- Bipartisan Infrastructure Law: $1,505,787
Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans’ Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees in the 117th Congress. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the mental health and addiction crises, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
