Trone Announces Action Plan to Fight Inflation and Cut Costs for Americans
Congressman Trone participated in a town hall with workers at a concrete manufacturing plant to discuss workforce development, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and inflation concerns.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Trone joined the New Democrat Coalition in releasing a multi-pronged action plan to fight inflation, lower prices on essential goods and services, and provide relief to American workers, families, and businesses. While the American Rescue Plan kept our local businesses’ lights on and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law reversed decades of underinvestment in our nation’s infrastructure, global inflation remains a challenge for hardworking Americans.
In February, Congressman Trone helped form a first-of-its-kind Inflation Working Group that gathers economists, policy experts, and administration officials to develop and advance solutions to tackle short- and long-term inflationary pressures. This action plan should serve as an essential guide to strengthening and diversifying global supply chains, getting people back to work, and lowering prices on everyday necessities such as energy, food, housing, health care, and more. You can read the full action plan here.
“Despite record economic growth, inflation continues to hurt Americans’ wallets at the grocery store and the pump. I didn’t come to Congress to sit pretty; I came to Congress to bring people together and get the job done. That’s what this job is all about,” said Congressman Trone. “This plan identifies concrete solutions to provide Americans with relief in the short-term and keep inflation down in the long-term. I’ll continue doing everything in my power to lower prices and create a strong, steady, stable economy for Americans today and for future generations.”
The action plan compiles a host of legislation that aims to reduce inflation for Americans by:
- Strengthening supply chains;
- Getting more people back to work;
- Suspending and reducing tariffs and other trade barriers;
- Lowering energy prices and transitioning to a clean energy economy;
- Increasing affordable housing;
- Lowering the price of food;
- Reducing out of pocket costs for Americans; and
- Investing in the long-term economic strength of our nation and families.
Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans’ Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the mental health and addiction crises, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
