News From the District: Congressman Trone Discusses Workforce and Economic Investments During Visit to Washington and Montgomery Counties

HAGERSTOWN, MD — This week, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) visited Washington and Montgomery Counties to meet with local leaders about his work to support the economic growth of Maryland’s Sixth District through once-in-a-generation legislative investments.
On Monday, Trone kicked off his tour in Hagerstown to meet with UAW Local 171 retirees about his efforts to strengthen the American manufacturing workforce and how the CHIPS and Science Act, now law, will create over one million good-paying jobs and address chip shortages facing the auto industry. Afterward, Trone visited Williamsport to discuss and tour infrastructure needs with local leaders, including the need to relocate the deteriorating U.S. Route 11 Bridge spanning the Potomac River.
On Tuesday, Trone participated in a series of groundbreakings in Hagerstown alongside Governor Larry Hogan (R-MD). At the groundbreaking of the new $70 million Hitachi Rail factory, Trone toured the work site and highlighted the investment’s positive local impacts. The factory will employ up to 460 people, sustain 1,300 jobs in the region, and inject over $40 million into the community.
Later, at the groundbreaking of the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine, Trone spoke about Western Maryland’s physician shortage and the need to proactively develop a strong health care workforce. Trone capped off the day by attending the groundbreaking of the Hagerstown Baseball Stadium.
On Thursday, Trone held a town hall with employees of RADA USA at its 33,000-square-foot defense radar technology manufacturing facility in Gaithersburg. Trone later held a meet and greet with members of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Montgomery County to discuss growth in the Hispanic small business community and recent investments in workforce training and job creation. In the FY22 federal government funding package, Trone secured $1 million in Community Project Funding for a 5G Job Training Bootcamp for communities of color in Montgomery County.
In Gaithersburg, Trone met with leaders from Identity Inc., a nonprofit organization serving Latino youth and their families, to learn more about their priorities and how he can provide support on the federal level. On Friday, Trone wrapped up his week by delivering remarks at the Victims’ Rights Foundation 26 Years of Service Luncheon in Germantown with local county leaders, including Chief of Police Marcus Jones.
“It’s always been my belief that every American ought to have a fair shot to succeed. I’m proud of the historic progress that Congress has made to expand economic opportunity and prepare our workforce for the future,” said Congressman David Trone. “The CHIPS and Science Act, Inflation Reduction Act, and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will not just create millions of new jobs, but they will also boost American competitiveness and invest in a better future for generations to come.”
Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans’ Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees in the 117th Congress.
