News From the District: Congressman Trone Discusses Rural Health Care and Presents Community Project Funding During Visit to Allegany and Frederick Counties

CUMBERLAND, MD — This week, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) visited Allegany and Frederick Counties to discuss rural health care, tour local businesses, and present Community Project Funding.

On Monday, Trone began his tour in Flintstone by speaking at the Maryland Rural Health Care Conference. Trone emphasized the need to address physician shortages, lower prescription drug costs, and expand access to telemedicine. Earlier this month, Trone attended the groundbreaking of the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine, which will serve as a long-term solution for Maryland’s rural physician shortages.

Afterward, Trone held a town hall with employees at National Jet Company, a precision manufacturer in LaVale, and discussed his efforts to strengthen American manufacturing. National Jet Company hires employees from the Western Maryland Works Training Center, which Trone visited in September.

In Cumberland, Trone presented a $187,500 Community Project Funding check to Allegany College of Maryland to renovate Zimmer Theatre, which would support workforce training in multimedia technology. Later, Trone met with leaders from AHEC West and spoke at a naloxone training about his fight to end our nation’s worsening opioid epidemic.

Trone wrapped up his day in Downtown Cumberland meeting with small business owners alongside the City Council. On Thursday, Trone and Mayor Michael O’Connor toured local businesses in Downtown Frederick.

“I firmly believe that access to high-quality, affordable health care is a fundamental human right. Marylanders in rural communities face unique obstacles in accessing health care, especially when it comes to mental health and addiction treatment,” said Congressman David Trone. “I proudly supported the Inflation Reduction Act, which will lower prescription drug prices and cap-out-of-pocket costs for those on Medicare. This is a game-changer for our seniors.”

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans’ Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees in the 117th Congress. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the mental health and addiction crises, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
