Congressman David Trone Releases Full Statement on Motion to Vacate

Congressman David Trone (D-MD) released the following statement after voting in favor of a Motion to Vacate against Speaker Kevin McCarthy:

“You cannot do business with someone who is untrustworthy and lacks integrity in their service to our country.

“Over the last few years, Kevin McCarthy has shown his true colors. He’s undermined our democracy, voting against the certification of the 2020 election three times and turning his back on the committee investigating the January 6th insurrection. He’s actively pursued an impeachment of President Biden founded on political retaliation and bad faith. He’s bent to the far-right extremes of his party — a tyranny of 20 — to grind our chamber’s effectiveness and productivity to a halt time and time again.

“Ironically, Kevin McCarthy has fallen victim to the very chaos and discord he’s fomented over his entire career.

“His speakership hasn’t served the American people, so I voted ‘yes’ on the Motion to Vacate in an effort to restore decency to the U.S. House and its service to our nation.”

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Budget, and Joint Economic Committees in the 118th Congress. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders.
