Rep. David Trone Releases Statement on SCOTUS Decision to Invalidate Sackler/Purdue Pharma Settlement Deal
Congressman David Trone (D-MD) released the following statement following the Supreme Court invalidating a bankruptcy deal involving Purdue Pharma, maker of the highly addictive painkiller Oxycontin, and members of the Sackler family who owned the drug firm:
“Like so many families across America, the opioid crisis is personal for me. The Supreme Court’s decision to reject this alarming provision at the heart of the Purdue Pharma settlement is a significant moment in our ongoing battle against the opioid epidemic.
“By denying the Sackler family immunity from opioid-related lawsuits, this ruling ensures they are held fully accountable for their role in this devastating public health crisis and paves the way for millions of affected families to finally receive the justice they deserve.”
