News From the District: Congressman Trone Visits Youth Center and Discusses Workforce Training in Frederick

Rep. Trone visits I Believe in Me Inc in Frederick

FREDERICK, MD — On Monday, Congressman David Trone (D-MD) traveled to Frederick County to visit an automotive shop dedicated to providing workforce and professional development training as well as a youth community center he’s working to secure funding for as part of his FY24 Community Project Funding requests

Trone’s first stop was to Dynamic Automotive, where he toured the automotive repair shop and spoke with team members about their involvement with the shop’s comprehensive workforce development program. During his town hall with team members, Trone discussed the importance of investing in workforce development programs and supporting auto workers. Last Congress, Trone helped pass the CHIPS and Science Act to create over one million good-paying jobs and address chip shortages facing the auto industry. In the FY23 governing funding package, Trone also voted to invest $10.5 billion into the Employment and Training Administration, which includes: $285 million for Registered Apprenticeships; $1.7 billion for Job Corps; and, $2.9 billion for Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act State Grants.

Next, Trone visited with Aje Hill, the founder of I Believe in Me Inc, at one of its afterschool programs. Trone discussed the future of the organization with Hill and his $3,000,000FY24 CPF request for land acquisition for I Believe in Me’s future Hope Center. This new facility would triple the number of children the center can serve, helping develop their educational and social skills through extended programming opportunities.

“As a businessman, I know that a strong workforce depends on high-quality professional development and giving our kids the support needed to set them on the path to success,” said Congressman David Trone. “By providing folks real workforce training right out of high school and surrounding kids with positive role models at an early age, we’re building a stronger community, and a stronger economy, by putting Marylanders first.”

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Budget, and Joint Economic Committees in the 118th Congress. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the mental health and addiction crises, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
