Representative David Trone Welcomes Republican Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers to Maryland to Advance Bipartisan Priorities
Reps. Trone and McMorris Rodgers visit C&O Canal Conococheague Aqueduct in Williamsport, Md.
Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, U.S. Representative David Trone (MD-06) welcomed Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) to Maryland’s Sixth District to learn more about how the duo can work together across party lines to make progress on issues affecting their constituents. The trip was arranged by the Bipartisan Policy Center.
Throughout the day, the duo met with broadband advocates, joined Councilwoman Emily Keller and other elected officials for a discussion on the opioid epidemic, and met with advocates for a discussion on mental health and telehealth services amid the COVID-19 pandemic. They also toured some of Maryland’s great National Parks, including the C&O Canal National Historic Park and Great Falls Park.
In October of 2019, Rep. Trone visited Rep. McMorris Rodgers in Eastern Washington, where they met with local leaders and business owners to discuss how they can work together to pass bipartisan solutions in Congress.
The two have partnered on numerous occasions in Washington, DC. In April, the two came together to discuss bipartisan solutions amid the COVID-19 pandemic. They have also worked together to introduce the bipartisan Girls Leadership, Engagement, and Development (LEAD) Act, and Congressman Trone is a co-sponsor of McMorris Rodgers’ H.R. 3162, the Broadband Data Improvement Act of 2019, which would improve data collection, mapping, and validation to support the effective deployment of broadband services to all areas of the United States.
“Whether it be the coronavirus, broadband access, health care, or the opioid epidemic, the biggest challenges facing our nation today need bipartisan solutions,” said Congressman David Trone. “Congresswoman McMorris Rogers and I came to Congress for the same simple reason: to make life better for our constituents. I am grateful that the Congresswoman took time out of her day to visit my neck of the woods, and I look forward to our continued partnership as we work together in Washington.”

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Education and Labor, Foreign Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees, where he is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
