Congressman David Trone Hosts COVID-19 Telephone Town Hall with Nearly 7,000 People, Joined by Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh, Johns Hopkins University, and AARP Maryland
WASHINGTON, DC – Yesterday, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) hosted a telephone town hall with Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh and a panel of experts from Johns Hopkins University and AARP Maryland to discuss resources available to seniors during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Nearly 7,000 people tuned in for the event.
“Over the past few months, seniors across Maryland have told me how COVID-19 has drastically affected the way they interact with their families, friends, and communities,” said Congressman Trone. “During this crisis, older Americans are particularly vulnerable, and it’s critical that they have access to the resources and information they need to stay safe. I’d like to thank our state and community partners for joining me on this call and the Marylanders who shared their most pressing concerns amid this crisis.”
The telephone town hall focused on the benefits available to seniors in Maryland and some of the next steps Congress can take to help Americans recover from the COVID-19 outbreak. This comes after Congress has passed four bills worth more than $3 trillion to help our country respond to the pandemic.
This is the fourth telephone town hall Trone has conducted since the COVID-19 outbreak. He’s also held webinars on volunteerism, small business and nonprofit resources, how to prevent yourself from COVID-19 scams, and mental health during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Trone also highlighted his 108-page Community Resource Guide to COVID-19 and a Small Business Owner’s Guide to the CARES Act, which are available on his website.
The town hall featured expert panelists:
- Brian Frosh – Attorney General for Maryland
- Dr. Morgan Katz, MD – Assistant Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University
- Tammy Bresnahan – Associate State Director Advocacy for AARP Maryland
Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Before becoming a member of Congress, Congressman Trone had experience running both a small business and a large organization with over 7,000 employees. Trone serves on the Education and Labor, Foreign Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees, where he is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
