Thurmont, Md. – Today, Frederick County Farm Bureau President Sam Roop presented Congressman David Trone (MD-06) with the prestigious American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) “Friend of Farm Bureau” award at the historic Brookfield Farm in Thurmont.

The “Friend of Farm Bureau” award recognizes Members of Congress who work in support of America’s farmers and ranchers and food security for American consumers.

“Maryland’s largest industry is agriculture, and I know firsthand that farmers are the backbone of not only our state, but the entire country,” said Congressman Trone. “That’s why in Congress, I’ve made it my priority to promote policies that grow our agricultural sector and support farmers in the Sixth District and across America. I’m honored to have been presented with this award today and will continue to be a champion for farmers everywhere.”

“We are proud to call Congressman Trone a Friend of Farm Bureau during the 116th Congress,” said Frederick County Farm Bureau President Sam Roop. “His support of the USMCA agreement, Disaster relief, Paycheck Protection Program and the Tax Relief Act along with his continued communication with the Western Maryland Farm Bureaus showed his true appreciation for agriculture.  We want to thank Congressman Trone for making sure Western Maryland has a voice in Washington D.C.”

Brookfield Farm is owned by Frederick County Farm Bureau President Sam Roop. The farm has been in the Ramsburg and Roop families for over 100 years. The farm grows and harvests corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay, and raises beef cattle.

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Rep. Trone serves on the Education and Labor, Foreign Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees, where he is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
